Researchers Hope That the Aids Vaccine is Ready in Ten Years
The Spanish researchers leading the project to combat AIDS, Hivicat, said today they expect to have an effective vaccine against the disease within ten years.
“We will bring to market the vaccine within ten years and have a good starting point to get it because we are in an ideal time for international collaboration,” said the director of Hivicat, Bonaventura Clotet, at the signing of an agreement Barcelona Partnership.
The director of the project, Josep Maria Gatell, explained that the current phase of the project, which will run for four years, we investigate the effectiveness of various laboratory purified viral components.
“We estimate that within four years, the best vaccine candidates could be tested in humans, and if proven to be effective in about ten years, the vaccine could be on the market,” he said, for its part, the coordinator of Hivicat, Dr. Christian Brander.
To achieve this goal, Hivicat account today with a new partner, pharmaceutical Esteve, who have signed an agreement committing themselves to invest 6 million euros ($ 8.4 million) over the next four years
