Coffee could Reduce Risk of Prostate Cancer
A recent study presented at a conference in Houston (Texas), said that regular consumption of coffee could be an important factor in reducing the risk of advanced prostate cancer.
The study by researchers at the Medical School and the School of Public Health Harvard University, revealed a strong inverse relationship between coffee consumption and risk of advanced cancers of this type.
According to the researchers “coffee effects on plasma insulin and glucose as well as on levels of sex hormones, all of which exert a role in prostate cancer.”
The study found that men who drank more coffee, had 60 per cent lower risk compared with those who drink the infusion. This is the first study of its kind that analyzes both the overall risk of prostate cancer and the risk of localized and advanced disease, they said.
However, the researchers said that caffeine does not seem to be a factor in the relationship between the reduced risk of prostate cancer. There is also no certainty about what are the major components in that the coffee contains other Biologically active ingredients like antioxidants and minerals, they said.
“What our results suggest is that there is no reason to stop drinking coffee for some concern about the manifestation of prostate cancer,” added the scientists in their study.
